ENVIRONMENT  FOOD

“The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.”

EVENT ONE

As part of “Great Big Green Week” we ran a “Gardening for Nature” event on 1st October 2022 to encourage people to garden for nature and grow their own vegetables.

Our event comprised of expert speakers and local environmental and gardening groups to provide information and inspiration to attendees.

At the event we will ask attendees to sign up for our mailing list and also make a pledge for nature, to commit to gardening in a more nature-friendly way.

Our gardens give us an incredible opportunity to tackle some of the huge challenges we are facing - we can support our struggling wildlife, reduce our impact on the climate crisis and even reduce our food and water bills!

Transition Bude in association with Bude Friends of the Earth and Cornwall Council are putting on the first of a series of events about Gardening for Nature.

If you would like to know how to garden in a more nature-friendly way or grow more of your own food, or if you have skills you want to share and would like to help out people who are beginners, then please come along to this event. We'll have expert speakers and lots of information from local gardening and environmental groups to give you support and advice.

Everyone who comes will be able to get a tree sapling from "Forest for Cornwall" and some wildflower seeds. There will also be the chance to get some great free giveaways to help you on your journey to nature-friendly gardening.

EVENT TWO

Talks

We’ll have some interesting talks:

How can you help your garden to be a space where nature is encouraged to come in and flourish?

Tips for wildlife friendly gardening from Cornwall Wildlife Trust

How to design your garden to include a pond or water feature

How you can get involved in protecting local trees, recording wildlife in your garden and helping monitor the water quality of our rivers

Give Aways

We’ll be giving away some pond liner and pump kits to a few lucky attendees.

Demonstations

How to install a pond; scything; creating bee hotels; planting pond plants. And a kid’s corner where we focus on the wonderful world of mini beasts.

Stalls

There’ll be stalls from environmental organisations and a seed swop where you can stock up on seeds for the new growing season.

Entrance is free and there’s no need to book – just turn up on the day. There’ll be refreshments available (donations welcome).

Come along on 25th February and change the way you garden to help nature to flourish!

This event is organised by Transition Bude and Bude Friends of the Earth.

The event is free and there will be light refreshments available.
